To note:

  • This is a very positive picture across all statements
  • 106 surveys were returned of the 192 families from YR to Y2
  • Very few responses received disagreed with the statements

The discrepancy between ‘Strongly Agree’ and ‘Agree’ does give us a way forward in determining actions that can ensure the school is even better:

  1. The school has high expectations for my child
  2. The school lets me know how my child is doing
  3. The school supports my child’s wider personal development

Additional comments regarding what we could improve:

  1. Extra-curricular activities
  2. School trips
  3. Communication (can often be via multiple platforms)

 What we currently do:

  1. The curriculum age-related-expectations and beyond were shared with staff and parents at the beginning of the year for reading, writing and maths / key end-point statements for meeting and exceeding what is expected are in place for all foundation subjects / chilli challenges have been introduced enabling children to challenge themselves and teachers to direct additional levels of challenge
  2. So far this year we have sent parents 2 ‘Report Cards’ that have focused on achievement in reading, writing and maths and the progress each child is making with targets and a telephone parents evening / Summer term 1 we were able to hold face-to-face parent meetings / review meetings for children with additional needs have been held throughout the year / SeeSaw in place to share celebrations etc. since September
  3. A fully planned and delivered PSHE curriculum / thematic assemblies / additional theme weeks and celebratory days / introduction of P4C in Y2 and Y1 / whole-school teaching of Makaton / introduction of Golden Rules and what they mean for us all each day / Honeycomb Hero chosen by class peers /
  4. Due to the COVID situation the decision was taken to place all infant-age children in the infant hall and Little Bears for after school club – this has been very calming, very successful and has enabled them to develop their social interaction and play without older children – this arrangement has remained and has precluded us from having after school clubs.
  5. Many places that would ordinarily be utilised for school trips were not allowed, we managed an outdoor farm trip for Reception but have had more visitors into school i.e. zoo / Florence Nightingale / great fire of London. This will return to normal.
  6. We currently use a wide range of communication methods to ensure we capture all parents as we are often faced with parents stating they have not received something. We use text, phone, email, letter and online platforms including Twitter and SeeSaw to communicate

Further actions:

  1. Ensure our commitment to high expectations is made clear in the starter packs for each year group that are sent out in September as well as regular reminders for children and parents
  2. Return to face-to-face parent evenings
  3. Embrace ‘My Happy Mind’ whole-school scheme / project and ensure parents are ‘on-board’ with this
  4. Set up immediate after school clubs for Summer 2 and plan for reintroducing paid after school clubs in Autumn 2022
  5. Ensure termly curriculum plans incorporate school trips and visits
  6. Explore the use of 1 single method of communication
