Maths at Nevill Road Infant School

The Mathematics curriculum

At Nevill Road Infant School, we value maths as a crucial and enjoyable part of our broad and balanced school curriculum. We believe that it should be fully inclusive to every child, offering opportunities that encourage aspiration and provide challenge. Our aim is to motivate the children to explore all areas of maths with enthusiasm as well as pursue their own mathematical interests. The children will be provided with many opportunities to engage in interesting and relevant mathematical problems and ideas.

Our specific aims are to:

·         MOTIVATE by exposing our children to a wide range of mathematical concepts in a range of relevant contexts, building in them an enthusiasm to tackle problems and investigate new ideas.

·         OPEN MINDS by teaching within the context of our vibrant, bold topics throughout the school, our children will be immersed in a progressive and stimulating maths curriculum. This will be centred on the knowledge and skills embedded within the National Curriculum.

·         REACH further by introducing our children to a wealth of creative, practical, activities, the children will have lots of opportunities to respond to mathematical problems creatively, reflect on their thinking and make generalisations that support their approach to challenges.

·         EQUIP our children with the knowledge, skills and resources to allow them to challenge themselves and become resourceful and innovative citizens.
